The London Marathon has a unique way of bringing the running world together. This year was particularly special, marked by the historic fall of the men’s world record and the first ever sub-2 hour marathon in a race. However, we won't let the headlines overshadow the incredible performances of our FLYCARB-fuelled runners across the field.
FLYCARB Athletes Deliver
While the world record grabbed the spotlight, it was a massive weekend for FLYCARB athletes. Across the board, runners delivered standout performances. In the men’s elite field, Alex Milne, the reigning 50km World Champion, clocked a superb 2:13, an incredible feat considering his illness leading into the race.
On the women’s side, one performance in particular captured the spirit of the day. Louise Small secured the bronze medal in the British Championships with a masterclass in composure. Passing the halfway mark in 73:53, Louise ground out a tough second half as temperatures rose, crossing the line in 2:28:29. Finishing 11th overall, she earned a well-deserved podium spot.
Afterward, she put it simply:
“That was the hardest marathon I’ve ever run, but worth it for the bronze medal. The BICARRB helped me hang on!”
It was a massive result and another milestone in what has already been an outstanding 2026 for Louise.
Bicarbonate in the Marathon
It is also worth noting the fueling strategy adopted by Sawe, the new world record holder. His use of the Maurten Bicarb System highlights the value elite athletes place on bicarbonate as a core part of marathon fuelling strategy.
Compared to the Maurten product, FLYCARB’s BICARRB products offer several crucial advantages. By dramatically reducing the gel volume, offering flavored options, and providing a much more affordable price point, we are making elite-level fueling accessible to every runner.
