Recover Faster Between Races with BICARRB
Share
When people think of sodium bicarbonate supplementation, they tend to think of the lactic burn at the end of the event, where bicarb can help you push harder for longer.
But what if bicarb isn’t just about the finish, what if it’s also about the days, or hours, between events?
That’s exactly what Cardiff-based middle-distance runner Adam Lane discovered.
Adam Lane | Two PBs in Four Days
Last Saturday, Adam used FLYCARB’s BiCarrb in a race for the first time, and he immediately took 2 seconds off his 800m PB, running 1:54.61.
But the bigger surprise came just four days later.
Back on track at the Aberdare BMC meeting, Adam raced again, and clocked another PB, this time stopping the clock at 1:53.48.
“I was so happy to knock my 800m time down by such a margin,” Adam said. “I felt the BICARRB made a big difference in the last 200m. I was able to hold my form and the pace right through the line.”
While the performance itself was impressive, it’s what happened between the races that caught our attention. That’s where bicarb shows its second superpower: helping you bounce back faster.
The Science of Recovery with Bicarb
During intense exercise, especially in repeated or closely spaced efforts, your muscles accumulate hydrogen ions (H⁺), which lower pH and contribute to fatigue. Sodium bicarbonate acts as a buffer, helping the body resist this drop in pH and clear acid more quickly.
This buffering doesn’t just matter during the event, it can also support recovery by:
- Reducing residual acidosis after intense efforts
- Improving the clearance of metabolic byproducts like lactate
- Enhancing subsequent performance in repeated bouts of high intensity
- In practical terms, it can help you feel more ready, more quickly.
Why This Matters for Athletes
In modern racing schedules, you’re rarely done after one effort. Whether it’s:
- A championship weekend with rounds and finals
- A training block with back-to-back sessions
- A league race followed by another club fixture midweek
…the ability to recover faster is critical.
