FLYCARB Pacing Squad x The London 5000

On Friday night, the FLYCARB pacing squad descended on Hampstead Heath to deliver a masterclass in pacing precision at the inaugural London 5000.

As the official pacemaking partner for the event, FLYCARB helped bring the night to life by igniting the flame of the fast and furious racing.

Our pacers led out all nine (!) 5000m races and they fully committed to each one. Fuelled by the BiCarrb boost, they went above and beyond the “usual service”, in some cases going all the way to 4800m!

This kind of commitment to helping athletes of all abilities hit new personal bests is at the heart of what we do. It’s central to our products, and to our ethos as a brand.

But enough of the fluffy stuff. Let’s talk about what runners really care about: SPLITS.

In Race 1 & 2, Will Newcombe went back-to-back, pacing to 4.8km at 18:20 pace, then hitting 4.6km at 16:55 pace. Unreal effort.

Race 3 saw FLYCARB Co-founder Josh take the reins, delivering the athletes to 4km at 16:10 pace with his usual metronomic perfection. He never misses a split.

Race 4 and our King of the Mountain, Isaac McAdan, kept the pacing profile flat, taking the race to 3km at 15:35 pace.

Race 5, and Will was back for more, guiding the train to 3km at 15:10 pace.

Race 6, was the sub-15 express, and FLYCARB Honcho, Josh, powered the train to platform 14.

As the sun dipped, the heat turned up, but Nathan stayed cool. He kept the Men’s B race locked into 68s per lap (14:10 pace) all the way to 3.4km.

The Elite Women’s race brought the best of British athletes, and we brought the best pacers. Pace group one was a combination of track maverick Katie Lowery, who went to a mile in 73s, before handing the baton to lovely Lucy Jones, who gracefully guided the leaders to 2.6km.

Not content with one pace, M² (Magic Maya and Magnificent Milly) paced to 2.6km at 16:15 pace), helping a whole pack of athletes clock sub-16:30s.

Finally, it was the turn of the Elite Men, and the pace (13:25) was spicy. Luckily, nobody can handle the heat better than FLYCARB star Tommy Bridger, who was led out by Olympic Champion, Alex Yee, to hit 3km in 8:05.

The rest of the race train was guided by karate kid, Jack Gray (expertly led out by Nathan Mapperly), who took the field to 3.6km (at 13:50 pace) .

At FLYCARB we love supporting grassroots events with the highest quality pacing and products.

We see these events not only as opportunities to share our fantastic products, but to connect and give back to the community that helped make us what we are.

The FLYCARB revolution continues, and there’s room for everyone.
