FLYCARB Fuels Fastest Legs at the English Cross Country Relays

The English Cross Country Relay Championships in Mansfield once again delivered an exciting day of racing, and FLYCARB-fuelled athletes were right at the front of the action. Across the junior and senior races, athletes fuelled by FLYCARB clocked some of the fastest splits of the day, showing how smart bicarb use can make a serious difference in short, high-intensity cross country efforts.
Katie Pye - Fastest Leg in the Junior Women’s Race
Aldershot AC’s Katie Pye put in a stunning performance on the first leg of the Junior Women’s relay. In her first season as a junior athlete, she went out hard on the opening stage and came home in a sensational 8:31, the fastest leg of the day by a convincing margin. Her next outing will be at the British Cross Challenge in Cardiff, where we know she’ll continue to impress.
“It’s great to see young athletes like Katie embracing smart fuelling strategies,” said the FLYCARB team. “High-intensity cross country racing demands often spikes lactate, and that's exactly where BICARRB shines.”
Dexta Thompson - Fastest Leg in the Junior Men’s Race
Not to be outdone, Dexta Thompson of Blackburn Harriers stormed through the field on the anchor leg of the Junior Men’s relay. Clocking 8:37 for 3km, Dexta recorded the fastest leg of the day and helped secure a historic silver medal for the Harriers.
After the race, the Loughborough University student shared his thoughts on fuelling:
“I actually can’t believe how good the mango was - all the benefits, but with a much better flavour. Total gamechanger.”
Dexta’s final leg was one of the most exciting to watch, showing how controlled aggression and smart fuelling can combine for a perfectly timed finish.
Why BICARRB Works for Cross Country Racing
Cross country races have short, intense efforts within the race, like a climb or a log jump. During these efforts the body uses anaerobic energy systems, which causes spikes in blood lacate. This ultimately slows you down, as the blood becomes more acidic and the muscles work less effectively. BICARRB is designed to help athletes maintain power and resist fatigue by increasing the blood bicarbonate level, helping to buffer the acidic conditions for a little while longer.
By increasing buffering capability, athletes can sustain higher intensity for longer, whether that’s a 3km blast at Mansfield or a tough 10km on the hills.
The Takeaway
Whether you’re targeting your local league or national championships, smart fuelling with BICARRB can help you stay strong to the line.
