Hermolle Humbles Everesting World Record ⛰️
Share
FLYCARB-fuelled athlete Lizzie Hermolle is the new off-road Everesting world record holder.
She climbed a staggering 8,846 m (29,022 ft) up and down the High Peak Trail in a frankly ridiculous 10 hours and 52 minutes. In the process, she shaved 1 hour 52 minutes off the previous record and is now the fastest woman in history for an off-road Everest.
Lizzie is clearly in incredible physical shape, but just as impressive is the mental fortitude she showed to keep climbing for nearly eleven hours.
She fuelled with Mango BICARRB throughout the effort. The bicarbonate buffering helped manage the leg-burning acidity from repeated climbing, allowing her to surge ahead of the record, while the added electrolytes supported hydration and reduced cramp risk during such a demanding day on the trail.
How Bicarb Can Help Ultra-Endurance Cycling
Most people associate sodium bicarbonate with short, “all-out” efforts like a 4 km pursuit or a local hill climb. But for ultra-endurance athletes like Lizzie, the benefits are less about the sprint and more about recovery from repeated efforts.
Research, such as this paper, have shown that bicarb can help cyclists maintain power output at the end of longer efforts and recover faster between bouts. In an Everesting attempt, a series of hard efforts with descents for recovery, this can be immensely helpful.
The Fueling Strategy
Lizzie used Mango BICARRB for her record. We formulated our Bicarb to be easy on the gut while providing the electrolytes necessary to prevent cramping and support hydration over a full day.
Want to buffer the burn?
If you’re training for your own “ridiculous” goal, whether it’s an Everesting attempt or just winning the local hill climb, our BICARRB range is designed to keep your legs turning long after they want to quit.
